STOP HS2 - we are ALL affected by it

We are ALL affected
Why is it so important to add your name to the online petition?
Firstly because it allows you to register your opposition to HS2
Why is it important to encourage all the people that you know – friends, relations, neighbours or colleagues – to add their names to the petition too?
Because getting 100,000 (1,000,000 would be a lot better) names or more on the petition represents our best hope of stopping HS2.  The consultations that are scheduled are not to consider whether or not HS2 should go ahead, only to make palliative alterations to quieten vociferous opposition. HS2 will happen if we do not get those names on that petition.
Why 100,000 or 1,000,000?  Because our prime minister, David Cameron said:

“It’s absurd that a tiny percentage of the population craft legislation that will apply to one hundred per cent of the population. Instead of locking people out of this process, we need to invite them in. So we’ll create a right of initiative nationally, where any petition that collects one hundred thousand signatures will be eligible to be formally debated in the House of Commons. Any petition with a million signatures will allow members of the public to table a Bill that could end up being debated and voted on by MPs. “
PLEASE stop dismissing people from your mind because you think they are not affected! Everyone in this country will be affected as the cost of this proposed blight path will be raised from all of us – not just those directly affected by the disruption, noise and property blight; someone living near Land’s  End will be paying as much as someone in Streethay (all other circumstances being the same); the estimates of the costs vary considerably as what portions of the total line are included very – however, it is unlikely to be less than £30b and could peak out at £80b – so, simple sum, the cost per household will average between £1,500 and £4,000.
The other arguments against HS2 are numerous – you can check out many by reading through this website. HS2 have had their supporting arguments torn apart many times – and yet the march towards this huge vanity project continues.
Most people, if asked whether they are in favour of high speed trains, will answer yes – and that is our danger because, in our experience, once the implications have been explained, almost everyone is against HS2 – maybe 1 or 2% think it a good idea.  If you really want to contribute, it will take you some time and effort – we find we have to talk with people for an average of some 10 minutes before they understand – but it is time and effort that will give you a tremendous satisfaction.
Do not be discouraged by the seemingly high numbers needed – learn from the pyramid selling people who know that if they get one person to recruit 30 people who in turn recruit 20 people who in turn recruit 10 who then recruit only 5 they can reach 30,000 people through just one; of course, those figures are theoretical – there will be drop off, duplication and, most dangerous of all, apathy; however, it is quite possible for one person to end up for being responsible for adding one thousand names – and if one thousand of us do that then that one million is reached
